Monitor
Issues and Eyevision
Incorrect
monitor positon is a frequent cause of discomfort with
computer workers. The type and location of the monitor used plays a significant
role in visual comfort.
Let´s
start with monitor elevation: monitor elevation should
be along a viewing plane that puts the top viewing line just below the
eyebrow. This ensures that the head is relatively plane to the viewing
area, and not tilting to the back or to the front. Lowering the monitor
without angling it up toward the user´s face encourages a forward
thrust posture, which results in awkward shoulder, arm and wrist postures,
as wll as undesirable effects upon the forward head position and tilted
neck.
Recent studies have demonstrated that it is easier to look downward rather
than horizontally or upward. Lower targets may be more comfortable for
users, especially when preferred viewing distances are considered. Comfortable
viewing can be achieved along a viewing plane which is approx. 0 - 60°
below horizontzal.
Distance to the screen should be at least 50 - 70 mm.
Adjust this distance to your actual visual needs and comfort. Remember
that distance to the screen will vary depending upon the size of the monitor.
